About Faulty Stars
Faulty Stars is a dating app based on Vedic astrology, designed to help you find a life partner through complete birth-chart compatibility rather than endless swiping.
What is Faulty Stars?
Faulty Stars is a dating app and life partner search built around the principles of Vedic astrology.
Many people find dating apps exhausting and wonder if the fault lies in themselves or their stars. We believe it is time to give the stars a genuine chance. Instead of skimming photos and swiping endlessly, Faulty Stars evaluates the complete birth chart of each person to introduce pairs with deep, calculated compatibility.
The website itself is the complete product. You can access Faulty Stars directly from any standard web browser on your computer, tablet, or mobile phone. On a phone, you can also add it to your home screen so it opens and functions just like an app.
Who is Faulty Stars for?
Faulty Stars is strictly for adults aged 18 and over who are looking for a life partner.
The platform is open to men, women, and non-binary people. When setting up your profile, you specify your own gender identity, who you are looking to meet (men, women, non-binary people, or any combination), and the age range you are open to. Introductions only happen when both people's age and partner preferences match each other.
Faulty Stars is worldwide. The stars are not limited by national borders, so there are no country or distance restrictions built into our matching pool.
How does Faulty Stars work right now?
Right now, Faulty Stars is collecting profiles. Matching has not started yet; introductions begin on 1 January 2027.
Creating a profile happens entirely through a conversation on our home page with Faulty, our guide. Faulty asks questions one at a time, explains why each detail is needed, and answers any questions you might have along the way.
To begin, you confirm that you are 18 or over and agree to our Terms and privacy. Then, you provide your details step by step. You can provide your email address first, or you can begin with your first name and supply your email before you upload your photographs.
Sign-in is passwordless. Whenever you need to sign in, Faulty Stars sends a 4-digit code to your email address, which you type into the site.
What details do you need to provide, and why?
We ask only for the information necessary to construct your birth chart, confirm your identity, and introduce you to potential partners:
- Email address: Used to sign you in securely across any device with a 4-digit verification code. Your email address is strictly private and is never shown to other members.
- First name: We only ask for your first name; a surname is never required. If you prefer to keep your real name private, you may choose another name for your profile.
- Date and exact time of birth: An accurate birth chart requires an exact birth time; an approximate time is not sufficient. Faulty Stars is for adults only, 18 or over. Your date and time of birth are kept private and are never shown to other members, who see only your age.
- Place of birth: This gives the exact geographic coordinates and the local clock time in effect on the day you were born, both of which are needed to calculate your chart accurately. This information is private.
- Gender and preferences: Whether you are a man, a woman, or non-binary; who you are looking to meet; and the age range you are open to.
- Height: Recorded in centimetres and shown on your profile to people we introduce you to.
- Profession: In our methodology, profession is an essential astrological factor rather than basic profile filler. Your birth chart points to the kind of work your life partner is likely to do, and Faulty Stars compares that prediction against the actual professions of candidate matches. Providing both your broad industry and broad role (such as "healthcare supervisor" rather than simply "manager") helps us find the best match.
- Marital status: An optional detail shown on your profile, which you may skip if you prefer.
- About Me: A short, open section where you can write about whatever matters to you, such as your values, habits, where you live, whether you have children, or what you live by.
- "Why have your stars been faulty?": A short, one- or two-line response that brings personality to your profile.
What pictures are required, and what is the non-faulty stamp?
Every profile requires three real photographs of you.
Each picture is checked to ensure it is a genuine photograph of one real adult with a visible face. If an image is not accepted, you can replace it with another.
Once your photographs are accepted, you take a selfie with your camera, which is compared against your three pictures. The comparison runs on our own server; only when it is not sure is Google Gemini asked to look as well. When the selfie matches, your profile receives the non-faulty stamp. This stamp confirms to other members that you are a verified, real person.
Your selfie is used solely to verify your photographs. It is never displayed on your profile and is never shown to any other member. You can take your selfie during onboarding or return to complete it later.
How does matching work?
Matching is based on the complete birth chart under Vedic astrology, using a methodology developed by our founder.
The compatibility calculations are fixed and mathematical. We do not use artificial intelligence to improvise or guess compatibility. The system calculates birth charts, compares them against partner indicators (such as profession), and determines compatibility systematically.
Beyond these principles, the proprietary details of our astrological calculation method are not shared publicly.
What will happen once matching starts?
Introductions begin on 1 January 2027. We are bringing as many people on board as we can before then, so members have a good number of people to be matched with.
The rhythm planned for when matching goes live includes:
- Introductions: The initial plan is to present up to 3 introductions a day. Each introduction will show the other person's three pictures, age, height, profession, marital status, About Me, a short qualitative summary explaining why you are a good match, and a deeper astrological explanation.
- Mutual matches: An introduction becomes a mutual match only when both people express interest in each other.
- Private messaging: When a mutual match occurs, a private chat window will open inside Faulty Stars. The conversation is planned to last for a maximum of 3 days or a total of 30 messages between both people, whichever comes first. This provides enough structure to gauge mutual interest without getting trapped in endless texting.
- Video call: When the messaging period ends, both people will be invited to select a mutually convenient time over the following 3 days for a private, 30-minute video call held inside Faulty Stars.
- Staying in touch: After the video call, both people will have 3 days to decide whether they wish to exchange contact details. Faulty Stars then steps back so you can continue your relationship directly.
- Crush link: A planned feature will allow you to send a private link to someone you already know or like. They can open the link, enter their own birth details, and see your astrological compatibility immediately.
Please note that introductions, messaging, video calls, and crush links are planned features for when matching goes live; they do not exist on the site today. Exactly how the in-app chat will work during the trial period is not settled yet.
When does Faulty Stars launch, and how much does it cost?
Faulty Stars launches as a trial in early November 2026. The exact launch date in November is not settled yet.
Faulty Stars is free for everyone until the end of 2026. Your first go on the platform is completely free.
Matching begins on 1 January 2027.
After the free period ends, the standard price will be a one-time payment of $30. There is no recurring monthly subscription. Your $30 payment remains active until you reach 10 mutual matches (where both people have expressed interest in each other). Merely being shown an introduction does not count towards your 10 matches.
What happens after a member reaches their 10th mutual match has not been settled yet.
How is my personal data handled and kept safe?
We keep data handling minimal and transparent:
- Strictly private details: Your date of birth, exact time of birth, birthplace, and email address are never revealed to other members. Other members see only your age.
- Selfies: Your selfie is used solely to verify your three photographs and is never published on the site.
- Server and storage: Faulty Stars runs on a single server rented in Germany, where your profile data, chat history with Faulty, and image files are stored. A backup of the database and picture files is made nightly on the server and kept for 14 days before being deleted.
- Cookies: We use only one cookie (
fs_sid), which is strictly necessary to keep you signed in on your browser. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics trackers, or third-party tracking scripts. - Outside services: We use Google Gemini to generate Faulty's chat replies, to check that each picture is a real photograph of one real adult, and, only when our own server's face comparison is not sure, to compare your selfie with your pictures (Gemini is instructed not to identify anyone); Amazon Simple Email Service to send sign-in codes and account creation emails; and geographic and timezone lookup tools (AccuWeather, Google Places, TimeZoneDB, and Google Time Zone) to locate your birthplace and identify the correct local clock time.
- Reporting: Because introductions have not started yet, there is currently no in-app reporting mechanism. Any safety concerns can be reported directly by email.
For our complete legal terms, privacy policies, safety rules, and cookie information, please visit faultystars.com/terms-and-privacy.
How do I delete my profile?
You can delete your profile at any time. Once signed in, simply select "Delete my profile" on the website.
Upon your confirmation, all data associated with you is removed immediately from our live systems: your profile information, your conversation with Faulty, your pictures, your selfies, and your sign-in records. Any copies held in our nightly server backups are permanently erased within 14 days as backups cycle out.
Please note that there is currently no automated option on the site to edit your answers after completing onboarding, nor is there a button to download an export of your data. If you need to correct an answer or request your data, you can email Gaurav directly.
