Welcome to Faulty Stars. This page sets out our Terms of Use, Privacy Notice, Community Guidelines, Safety and Reporting practices, Cookie policy, and instructions for deleting your account. Faulty Stars is a dating and life partner search service based on Vedic astrology. It was founded by Gaurav and is operated under its parent company, Far Far Away Co. (farfaraway.co).

Terms of use

Overview and eligibility

Faulty Stars is designed to help adults find meaningful connections and life partners using Vedic astrology.

You must be at least 18 years old to create a profile or use this service. By checking the agreement box on our website, you confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are under 18, you may not use Faulty Stars.

Account registration and access

To register, you take part in an onboarding conversation on our website. You sign in using your email address and a 4-digit verification code sent to your inbox. We do not use passwords. You are responsible for ensuring that you have access to your email address and that your verification codes remain confidential.

Each person may create only one account. You agree to provide accurate and truthful information about yourself, including your exact birth details, which are required for our Vedic astrology calculations. You may use your real first name or choose a preferred first name to protect your privacy.

Current service status and introductions

Faulty Stars is currently collecting profiles. Matching and introductions do not begin until 1 January 2027.

Faulty Stars launches as a trial in early November 2026 and is free for everyone until the end of 2026.

Pricing and payments

There are currently no payment features on the website. After the free trial period ends, Faulty Stars will cost $30 for 10 mutual matches, and the first go will be free. When payment processing is introduced, terms governing transactions will be provided.

Member conduct

You agree to use Faulty Stars in a respectful, lawful, and honest manner. You agree that you will not:

• Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity or age.
• Upload photographs that do not belong to you or that do not clearly show your face.
• Harass, abuse, threaten, defame, or intimidate any other person.
• Use Faulty Stars for commercial advertising, solicitation, or spam.
• Attempt to interfere with, damage, or compromise the technical infrastructure of the service.

Account suspension and termination

We reserve the right to suspend or remove any account that violates these Terms of Use or our Community Guidelines, or where we reasonably determine that a profile is fraudulent or harmful. You may delete your account at any time using the self-service controls on our website.

Privacy notice

We respect your privacy and handle your personal details strictly as required to provide our service.

Data controller and hosting

Faulty Stars was founded by Gaurav and is part of Far Far Away Co. Gaurav manages all data matters and can be contacted at gaurav@faultystars.com.

The Faulty Stars website, its PostgreSQL database, and uploaded picture files are hosted on a single server rented from Netcup in Germany.

Information we collect

We collect and save the following information when you create and use your profile:

• Contact and Sign-In Details: Your email address, when it was confirmed, and sign-in codes (stored only in scrambled, unreadable form, expiring in 10 minutes).
• Personal Profile: First name (or chosen name), height in centimetres, profession, marital status (optional), your "About Me" description, and your response to "Why have your stars been faulty?".
• Astrological Details: Your date of birth, exact time of birth, place of birth (including city, region, country, latitude, longitude, time zone, and clock offset in force on your birth date).
• Partner Preferences: Your gender (man, woman, or non-binary), who you are looking for (man, woman, non-binary, or any combination), and the age range you are open to.
• Photographs and Verification: Three profile photographs (along with verification results and reasons), every selfie you take (along with verification results and reasons), and whether you have been awarded the non-faulty stamp.
• Messages and Onboarding: The complete conversation history between you and Faulty on the website, timestamps showing when your profile was started, completed, and last changed, and the record of when you agreed to our terms.
• Unanswered Questions: Questions you ask that our guide cannot answer from its reference materials, retained in order to improve answers.

Sensitive information and legal basis

Certain details you provide are sensitive:

• Who you are looking for may reveal your sexual orientation.
• Your profile pictures and selfies are images of your face.

We process this information only with your explicit consent. You give your consent by ticking the box: "I am 18 or over, and I agree to the Terms and privacy" before any profile answer is saved. You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your profile.

Why we collect your information

• Account Access: Your email is used to send sign-in codes and an account creation confirmation from Gaurav.
• Vedic Astrology Matching: Your exact date, time, and place of birth are used to calculate your Vedic birth chart. Your profession is an astrological matching factor used to compare partner indications in charts against actual careers.
• Profile Presentation: Your name, age, height, profession, marital status, "About Me", and three accepted pictures will be shown to potential matches once introductions commence.
• Identity Verification: Your three pictures are checked to ensure they show a real adult. Your selfie is compared against your pictures to verify your identity and award the non-faulty stamp.
• Assistance: Your messages with our guide are used to guide you through onboarding and answer questions.

Third-party services

We share specific data with external service providers only as necessary to run the website:

• Google Gemini (Google AI): Receives your typed messages and recent conversation history (up to the last 40 messages) to generate replies. Receives your three photographs to confirm they show a real adult with a visible face. Only when the face comparison on our own server is not sure, receives your selfie and three photographs to confirm they show the same person. Google Gemini is instructed not to identify anyone.
• Amazon Simple Email Service (AWS): Receives your email address and 4-digit sign-in code to deliver sign-in emails. When your profile is complete, receives your email address and first name to send Gaurav's confirmation email.
• AccuWeather and Google Places: The text you type into the birthplace box is sent to AccuWeather (and Google Places if AccuWeather finds nothing) to suggest locations, and the selected place is sent to retrieve coordinates.
• TimeZoneDB and Google Time Zone: Receives your birthplace coordinates and birth date (as midnight of that day) to determine the exact clock offset in force on that date.

We do not use advertising networks, tracking scripts, or analytics scripts. All fonts and files are served directly from our server.

Who can see your information

• Yourself: You can view your conversation and your photographs whenever you are signed in.
• Site Administration: Gaurav can view all profile fields, photographs, selfie results, and conversations on a private, password-protected administration page.
• Other Members: No details are currently shown to other members because introductions have not started. Once matching begins on 1 January 2027, matches will see your first name (or the name you chose), three pictures, age, height, profession, marital status, "About Me", and compatibility explanations.
• Private Information: Other members will never see your email address, exact date of birth, exact time of birth, or place of birth. Selfies are never shown on the website.

Data retention and backups

We keep your profile data until you choose to delete your account. We do not operate an automatic data deletion schedule.

Every night, a backup of our database and picture files is created on the same server in Germany. Each backup copy is kept for 14 days and is then permanently deleted.

Your rights

You have clear rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You can see your details and pictures when signed in. You can request a complete copy of your personal data by emailing Gaurav at gaurav@faultystars.com.
• Correction: We do not currently provide a self-service button to edit answers after they have been submitted. If you need to correct any details, email Gaurav at gaurav@faultystars.com.
• Deletion: You can delete your entire profile and all associated data at any time using the "Delete my profile" button on the website, or by emailing Gaurav at gaurav@faultystars.com.
• Withdrawal of Consent: You can withdraw your consent for data processing at any time by deleting your profile.
• Complaints: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in the country or region where you live.

Community guidelines

Faulty Stars is built for genuine people looking for long-term partners. We require all members to abide by these standards:

• Honesty and Authenticity: Use your genuine birth details and real photographs of yourself. Do not misrepresent your age, appearance, or background.
• Kindness and Respect: Treat every person with courtesy. Harassment, hateful comments, sexual pressure, stalking, and abusive language are strictly prohibited.
• Safety First: Do not post financial information, request money from others, or attempt to sell goods or services.
• One Person, One Profile: Do not operate multiple accounts, shared accounts, or profiles on behalf of someone else without their presence.

Failure to follow these guidelines may lead to profile removal.

Safety and reporting

Verification and the non-faulty stamp

To protect members against fake profiles, Faulty Stars checks every uploaded photograph using automated tools to confirm it is a photograph of a real adult with a visible face.

Members take a selfie with their device's camera. The selfie is compared with the three accepted photographs on our own server, using OpenCV face-comparison software; only when that comparison is not sure is Google Gemini asked to compare them as well. If the selfie matches the photographs, the profile receives the non-faulty stamp. Selfies are used exclusively for this check and are never visible to anyone else on the site.

Reporting concerns

Because introductions have not yet started, there is no in-app reporting button on member profiles.

If you have any safety concerns, suspect a fraudulent profile, or receive unwanted contact, please report it immediately by sending an email to Gaurav at gaurav@faultystars.com. All reports are handled directly.

Cookies

Faulty Stars uses one cookie only:

• Name: fs_sid
• Purpose: Keeps you signed in on your browser so you can continue your conversation and complete your profile. It is issued when you visit the site, even before you enter an email address, to maintain your session.
• Characteristics: It is an HttpOnly cookie (it cannot be read by web scripts) and uses SameSite=Lax (it is not sent to other websites).
• Duration: It expires after 180 days unless you sign out earlier.

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party cookies, or tracking scripts.

Deleting your account

You have total control over your profile and can remove your data at any time:

Self-service deletion

1. Sign in to your profile on faultystars.com.

2. Select the "Delete my profile" button.

3. Confirm that you wish to delete your account.

What happens when you delete

• Your profile record, complete conversation history, picture files, selfie records and files, sign-in codes, and active sign-in sessions are deleted from our database and server immediately.
• Any questions you asked that our guide could not answer are kept to improve the system, but they are fully unlinked and can no longer be associated with you.
• Nightly backup copies containing your data remain on the server in Germany for up to 14 days, after which they are permanently overwritten and deleted.

If you encounter any issues deleting your profile yourself, email Gaurav at gaurav@faultystars.com, and your profile will be removed manually.

Changes to this page

If we change how the website works, our legal terms or our privacy practices, we will update this single legal page. The date at the top of this page will always show when it was last revised.
